"With a projected 2009 deficit of at least $22 million, Bill Franklin, the city's public service director, acknowledged that the city could no longer afford its $12.7 million trash collection operation.

"We are making a structural change by reducing our workforce," Mr. Franklin said.

He said switching Toledo's trash collection to a private firm would save the city $3.6 million a year."

Mayor Finkbeiner outlines new plan for balancing budget

"The mayor also wants to hike the garbage fee from $7 to $10 per month for people who do not recycle, and from $2 to $7 for those who do. It would boost city revenue by $1.9 million."

There is nothing new to the plan, it is the same song and dance, of raising fees/taxes on an ever dwindling population.

The Public Works director wants to eliminate the city picking up the trash and the Mayor wants to increase the fee for picking up trash.

Me thinks, one or the other needs to take a hike and take the higher fees with them.
