While the candidates sprout up with promises and pledges of this or that in Toledo Ohio

Driving around the city, one can see what the problem is.

For all too long the city relied on industry, the auto industry, the glass industry and others destined to change and die out.

But, all was well, times were good and the captains of government set a course, all the while failing to see the storm in the distance.

Our current administration promised results. Results, I tell ya.

Sure there have been some. On the other side of the balance sheet has the numbers of businesses and employers leaving the city or new businesses setting up in the burbs.

All the while like Nero fiddled while Rome burned, the adminstrations here have done the same, fiddled and diddled.

Visions of the past predominate the thinking of the leadership. Renovate the former Westgate Shopping Center into a 1950's strip mall, where people could walk from store to store, well sure. Problem is that it is not the 1950's anymore and people drive from place to place.

Then comes the vision of new housing on the river with a look and feel of the 1910's.

New flash - the early 20th. century is long gone, but our leadership focuses on the past.

The city is decaying and little seems to be in the offing, well except to tax people more, ah no, we like to call them fees.

Garbage fees, etc., which trust the leadership the fees are not taxes.

Speaking of taxes what do scenes like this, do for our city?

They show us that with all the talk and discussion there is still no plan to stem the tide of emptying houses and businesses.

The commercial building shown is right next now vacant Willy's plant location.

And what is being done to market that location? It is right off I75 and has a rail line adjacent to it.

The neighborhoods surrounding the former Willy's location have slipped into dispair and the area is slipping further and further into dispair and disrepair.

One other image shows the rampant siding stripping that plagues our neighborhoods.

One mayoral candidate wants us to report the striping. Well, sure, wanna stay up late at night and try and catch the culprits?

Some scrap yard is taking in the siding, question is which one.

Do any of the mayoral candidates have any concrete plans for a turn around of the city, as a whole?

Words and campign rhetoric is not enough, we have seen how many years of failed pledges and failed words.

The time for change is at hand, but can our leadership get the S.S. Toled off the sand bar any time soon?
